Game Dev Diaries… oh, and Christmas Trees

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Heyo! It’s been a while since I spoke up, but I’ve got a few things to talk about.

Firstly, I’ve started a new project (don’t worry, Battle Beat will be out eventually!) and I’m trying an exciting new idea. I’m starting a series I’m calling Game Dev Diaries where I make a video every day about the progress of the game and its design. I’m a bit rough in terms of video editing and my presentation skills, but it’s an interesting idea to me and I’ll be working on this for hopefully the next month. Let’s see if I can pull of a decent game within a month’s time span!

Here’s the first episode. I’ll try to post more on the blog as the new episodes start showing up.

ALSO, if you haven’t guessed it yet, I made another holiday app for Christmas. A customizable Christmas Tree! This one was a lot more interesting to work with than the Pumpkin Carver, mostly because I got to play with the Farseer physics engine to handle the dangling of ornaments and strings of lights. Now I’m using Farseer in my new game, and it saves me some good time rather than dealing with these nitty gritty physics myself, and letting me do things I’d never bother to fully implement in my own physics programming. Anyway, if you want to check it out, click the box art below and you can download and try the tree yourself. LOTS of art packed into this one!
